Partially duff pod - what to check?
« on: 15, April, 2013 - 16:37:42 »
Hi guys, been helping out a friend with his C5 (he should be around soon, just waiting for activation).

Picked it up yesterday and when connecting a battery, only the lights worked. The 1 amp fuse in the control box was duff, replaced this is the motor came to life. However, got no lights at all on the pod. The thermal cut out and beeper still work properly, it's just the lights that are dead. Having a quick look inside the pod, resistor R21 has definitely seen better days and seems a bit melted and black, and it did smell a little. Going to replace this straight away and check out the regulator in the control box, is there anything else that should be checked out? It won't be used until these have been checked/replaced so as not to cause further damage. As far as we know, the battery has never been connected the wrong way, although we only know it's history up until yesterday.

Thanks very much.

Thanks, when we first got the motor going excitement may have taken over and some test drives took place. After a bit, it did the beep. Didn't really think at the time we might have been doing more damage.  :-\ It was just afterwards when we decided to take a look at the pod.

Check for broken solder joints too and also the connector pins where the Red cable goes, check they're clean and if you have a multimeter that will help continuity test the connections from the pod pcb back to the control box.

Progress - pod is alive and fully working. Turned out to be Resistor R1 in the control box, and then replaced R21 in the pod for good measure as it was working, but looked in a pretty bad state.

Thanks for the help!

EDIT: Actually, the orange lights at the end of either meter never light. Both meters work correctly, just the orange lights that don't. Is that likely to be anything serious?
