I've just been informed that the complete range of Schwalbe City Jet tyres are discontinued with immediate effect.
This lack of notice by the manufacturer means I've been left in the lurch as I only found out when placing an order to restock my empty shelf >:(
However the situation is what it is and I cannot change that , so I have to find an alternative. My suppliers only deal with Schwalbe so if anyone can recommend a Schwalbe alternative then I can get some of those in as a trial. I'll be taking a look through their range to see if anything looks suitable. The real snag is identifying a series of tyres that come in both 12" and 16" sizes to give us the matching set.
In the meantime I'll try a few alternative makes and see what we can come up with but sadly though it looks like we have to find a replacement for the City Jet which is a real shame...those tyres were great .

With the Schwalbe range there is the Marathon and Marathon plus, one of the leading tyres out there and the ones I use and fit to e-bikes. can take high psi and has a stiff wall. regarding the front there is the Kid plus / buggy tyre, hard wall soft compound cap.

They do these in C5 size. Standard fare rather than the slicks of the city jet.

Might have to get a few of those and give them a try.
In the meantime I'll see if I can get hold of some of the remaining stock of the city jets to see us through for the short term.
Long term though we will have to look for another favourite

Darn it! I love the look of the city jets but those Kid+ ones look pretty cool too.
Hopeing a friend will be able to fix my back brakes soon and get me back on 3 wheels

How about these? White walled for that retro look http://www.oxfordpramcentre.co.uk/products.php?pdt=3690

The Kenda brand are a soft wall tyres and also a low psi, these are 35 psi max ,and I mean max. Nice looking retro look though. The kid plus is 65 psi. more ideal if using a steel rim but the plastic c5 can take more. The kenda will roll on corners also.

I've hopefully got a small batch of City Jets (rears only) on the way , so short term not too bad.
Long term we still need to look for a new favourite. Some good ideas coming through on here though , thanks guys ;)

I tried a Kenda on the front wheel. The beaded edge is too weak ; the whole thing was a bad experience.

Well it looks as though trying to hoover up all the remaining stocks of City Jets isn't worth doing so I've gone back to my suppliers to look at Schwalbe alternatives.
They're going to send me some samples of these ;

..they come in both the 12" and 16" sizes so we would be able to have a matching set for front and rear. The blurb says "Tread designed for all uses. Low rolling resistance, but with added grip where it's needed" so they might be ok. I must admit I'm a bit concerned by the knobbly look as this means they might prove to be a bit noisy, but worth a try.
I'll let you know how I get on :)

Certainly not as pretty as the Cityjets

Not a fan of the look myself but hay ho.

I have now taken delivery of a batch of 16" city jets (rear tyres for the c5).
It has taken some effort but we got there in the end...
Not sure how many more of these I will be able to get so if you need some my advice would be don't hang about for the next lot !
I'm still trying to source some alternatives, finally found one I liked to find that it was also had to source >:( C'est la vie !

Hi Karl,
are you still on the lookout for City Jet tyres?

I've still got a few here from the last batch my supplier was able to source. Once they run out I will need to search again for an alternative supplier. I found that sourcing was not the main problem , it was sourcing them at a reasonable price that was the hardest part ! I found some stockists in Holland and even a little more local here in UK but the prices were too high mainly due to the fact they are now discontinued in the 16" size. :(
-
That explains why I couldn't find many 16". I managed to order the last 4 16" that a dealer here had.
If I come across any more I'll let you know. Ok olé!

Hello
Are we still able to order a set from the shop?
I might get some in if they are running out.
Cheers

..at the moment , yes they are 8). If the shop side shows it in stock then the item is on the shelf ready to go :)
But as KarlG says, they are getting scarce even in Germany - where they're made !
