In hindsight it was a accident waiting to happen.
Today my C5 had been summoned to a Police test/MOT at the police motor vehicle testing centre, so thought I had better get the front light working. So over the weekend the "quick" job of finding and moving of the light circuit from the 24v ring to just one battery for 12V. Now, nothing on my C5 was fused when I brought it and was basically a job for when I got round to it. All looked good on one battery, so added the second one. The lights still tested ok. Then I tried the the motor........ Having forgot to re-insulate one of the connecting blocks I in the 24v ring. The C5 moved, and the cable moved and shorted the chassis
........ Now I remember why fuses should have been higher up my list of things to do. Much smoke appeared and room filled
The end result was this lovely pile of melted cable:
Needless to say, even after a very quick rewire, the C5 failed the police check on number of points including sloppy wiring.
So remember kids
, a fuse is for life, not just for Christmas.
