Stock levels

Although I'm still fairly new at all this, I reckon I've managed to get the stock levels just about right to ensure no-one has to wait for anything they've ordered (& paid for).

When an item is out of stock I tend to remove it from the shop until the stores are topped up. The idea was to ensure people didn't send money and then have to wait ages for their items to arrive. This has given a few people the impression that some items have been deleted for good, which is understandable since it's no longer shown.

One suggestion is to keep the item on display and show "sold out", and then if any money is received to offer a refund.

Any (constructive) thoughts on the matter gratefully received  :)

how about just a 'waiting for new stocks' comment or a 'call for availability'

When i used to run an online shop, and we'd sold out of something, i just used to put  ' Out of stock : Due in **/**/** ' and that way people could see the item, and it was up to them if they wanted to order and wait, or wait for it to come in first.
We also had the option of emailing people when an item they were after came back into stock.
