Title: Problems with the C5 Cct Diagram.
Post by: KarlG on 29, September, 2012 - 17:06:56
All data is obtained from a cct diagram that I downloaded many years ago. The file has the title 'Page17.jpg'.

Pin 3 of X8 in the CB is a +12v connection. The horn cct starts with a red/white cable from pin 3 in the CB and is connected directly to the horn. The other connection on the horn is brown/white which goes to one side of the horn button, the other side is a green/white cable that goes to the flasher terminal block. From the terminal block it goes to the flasher????  From the second flasher terminal block it goes via an orange/white cable to the switching connector of the indicator switch. If this is correct the horn and turn indicators are in series and can only work when both switches are utilised simultaneously.

I can only BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, when I turn, and when I turn I BEEP, BEEP, BEEP.  :o  ???  :-\

Can anyone help?

Horn (if its the correct c5 one) and indicators are seperate, they should not be wired together !

I have seen the indicators wired to a beeper that sounds when the indicators are operating, but that is not standard.

Have a look here :
http://c5alive.co.uk/index.php?com=pages&page=5

This section contains all the circuits for the POD and Control box etc and if you look in the unofficial service manual, you will find the fitting instructions for the the indicators etc.

Hope this helps
John

Hi John,

once again thanks for the tip.

You are right, I dropped a cod by over seeing a connection.   :-[ This problem is solved, but I'm still not happy with Page17.jpg.

The wiring on my C5 has been butchered, some wires have been removed and some have been added, some may have been moved. This is the reason I need a harness colour code diagram, tracing the harness will not help as I have no idea were the wires should go. There are many loose wires as I have no horn or turn indicators.
I have all the ccts from the service manual (the source for C5Alive's) redrawn, for my use,  years ago, but they don't cover the harness colour coding.  :(

There's a 'Universal Headlight Warning Reminder Beeper' available though eBay UK. This can be used as a turn indicator reminder when the red is connected to the orange/white wire on the indicator switch and black to ground.  Located behind the seat there is a green/white and a black/white wire, if they shorted then the green/white wire for the horn button can be used as ground. The green/white - black/white short is a correct C5 cct connection.

Cheers.

Hi there I do have a spare wiring harness that you can borrow .It may help you to trace the connectors .
All it would cost you is the postage to you and back to me ...I can also put labels on some of the wires ...
I will look and see if I have one that once had indicators and and horn fitted ..
bye Chas

Hi Chas,

many thanks for your very kind offer, nice to know when you're trusted.  ;D

My problem is not with the harness but with the loose and other maybe non C5 connections to the CB.

I can't understand the C5 CB cct diagram (C5Alive and Page17.jpg).

All pins are part of X8.

Pin 1 Rear Light Feed +12V.
Pin 2 Front Light Feed +12V.
Pins 10 and 12 are the returns for the above.
This means that Pins 10 and 12 are grounded (0V). If this is the case HOW can pin 9 (also connected to pins 10 and 12 @ 0V) be the Light Switch Feed when the Light Switch Return, pin 8, is also at 0V?   ??? ???

I can only get at my C5 now and again, so checking is one hell of a problem.

Regards.

KarlG.

P.S. Added Page17.jpg for info. Please don't ask where it came from, I downloaded it years ago and today I can't find it in the IN anymore.

Hi there the diagram is from the user manual .....Do you think it would be easer to get a new harnes and fit it ....It is very hard to trace the wires  underneath the body . There are some that are not used..Also to confuse you there are two types of wiring ...

Hi Chas,

at the moment I'm not shure as to the correct course, will be looking at the C5 today or tomorrow as the key is available.

And what are the two types?

This thread has certainly helped me, as my C5's wiring had been totally butchered. Finally managed to get my horn connected and working!
At some point I need to rewire the whole thing using something resembling the correct colours :o
