Title: 14v C5 ???

I had an idea today about running the c4 (at Motor end only) at 14v

Using 2 bats one pumping 12v and the other additional voltages to give more boost.  keeping the max power available at all times.  or maybe a turbo button to give the motor a burst of an extra few volts.

Im thinking of giving this a go. 

Has any one tried this?

I don't think it would work, its the current that matters most.  People run 24 volt because it carries more current. The additional 2volts wont do anything.

adding the extra couple of volts wouldn't have much benefit. the doubling of volts quadruples the current going through it, quadruples the power out put and doubles the rpms.

..or just add a larger motor and some big batteries ..like on "Challenger" or "c-5000"  ;D :P

I thought the 24 volts was to give it extra range, so the batteries would in paralel? plus to plus and minus to minus.

Would not a higher voltage affect the components also?

With all the motor overheating worries, double voltage and more ower in would be least desired I woulld have thought.

The power can only be 250 watt motor by law to date, unless we campagin to have it increase, to make electric trike more useable?

was thinking like a train set the train runs at 12v but you increase the speed to 14v and the train runs faster (and is within the tolerance of the train).

you can protect the 12v circuits (pod) by adding diodes in series, as diodes drop .3v per diode.

or may be 2 bats in series with a bank of diodes to give various voltages to the motor - Some alternator diodes should be powerful enough.

Seeing as the battery is 13.7Vdc, where are you getting the extra 2Vdc?

I think he was thinking of the 12v battery giving 12 volts, but as you say a car battery gives slightly higer.  The original C5 deep discharge batter gave a slightly less voltage and I remember Adam Harper saying that the slightly higher voltage of car batteries may harm (given time) the electronics in the Control Box and Pod.

I have not suffered from this on both of my C5's i must add. But I have to admit my C5's are good weather joy cars and don't use them much now.
