freewheel ?
« on: 11, April, 2013 - 12:48:06 »
Hi chaps

I really want a 24v upgrade, but know there are reliability problems.

As someone who doesn't know the correct end of a screwdriver, I understand the 'gearbox' has issues taking the power.

I was thinking about if it was possible to use a freewheel - like on a bike drivetrain. So the power will

I'm sure there is a good reason this isn't possible, but I thought I'd ask.

A freewheel is designed to prevent over-revving on the overrun. It would not help a fragile gearbox.  A cushdrive would help, but its probably quicker to build a metal gearbox than design develope and build one of them and it would only mask the gearbox weakness for a while.

Thanks - would a brushless motor need a gearbox?

A reduction drive of some kind would probably be necessary as a torque multiplier and rev reducer. The box stock C5 motor revs to 3300 rpm (from memory), what does your intended replacement motor do? Does it develop maximum torque at lock?
