I had a go in the c-5000 ,and both Voodoo and Challenger were tried out by various BVS members ...including a young 10year old lad named George who took quite a shine to Challenger (yes, hate to make life even worse for radiomarty but Matt could have taken Challenger down the drag strip...)
The c-5000 was run at 24v on the Saturday and performed really well. It was then set up for 48v with a fresh set of batteries for Sundays session and managed the standing start quarter mile in 21 seconds....only 3 seconds off the pace of the electric motorbike & sidecar outfit !! Really impressive stuff.
Sadly, we had a snag at the end of the session ;
...a battery boiling is not a pretty sight, that "steam" isnt steam
However, testing to destruction is what it's all about
and the c-5000 will live to fight another day. ElectricDave is already working on a solution and will certainly be back stronger for the AER in 2011
It was a fantastic weekend and we hope to take part in next years electrathon. Must say a big thank you to the BVS guys for looking after us - the free BBQ and free beer were most gratefully received, and sleeping in the portacabin was much better than sleeping in a tent (most appreciated
).
