Gearbox grease ?
« on: 29, July, 2010 - 00:31:39 »
Hello and good morning. I have been reading posts regarding the grease to use in the gearbox, however I do have a question on the type . I thought for a long time that with nylon gears, Lithium would damage the teeth and just about disintegrate the nylon, is this true ? I was also looking at if its possible to use copper grease, I know the gears wont reach 1200 c+ its just that I have alot of it, I do mean alot ! Other than that Molyslip high speed gear grease is good but does contain high lithium. Or Finnish line dupont teflon white grease, but again lithium based. Any sugestions or link to the type would be great. Many thanks for all the support so far. :)

I've no idea whether lithium grease causes damage or not - maybe someone else with a bit more knowledge will be along to clarify.

For several years now I've been using some grease meant for cv joints and I think that has a lithium content . Not encountered any problems so far.

When it runs out I'll probably replace it with some bog standard general purpose grease.

..suggests it should be ok to use .
