Sorry I'm not sure if we are talking about the strap for carrying the battery or the strap to secure the battery in the C5, I'm after the one to secure it that you had made some replacements a short time ago Chas.
P.S I need to sort some motor bearings for my C5, its still all stripped down because I've not had the chance to sort it out, been really busy for the past month or more.

Hi all just had a new gearbox insert made up but not tested yet but looking good it will be a lot stronger that the original as there will be 4 small gears going round instead or three ..Thanks to Simon for suggesting that I have a go at making one with 4 gears ...
I will post more info as to how it runs ..But first have to have the drive teeth fitted ..

Will this change the speed / torque of the gearbox.

Hi there Lance the new gearbox will not increse the speed or the torque but what it will do is to spread the load on the small gears more  evenly instead of 33% of the load on each gear it will be down to 25%  and hopefully  make the gearbox stronger especially when the C5 has been converted to run on 24 volts . But as yet I have not tested it out ....

Can you sill have the indicators as well as the Hazard lights

Yes it works as normal with indicators (left or right) and as hazard (all four).

I believe that's connected up to one of the pins on a sort of 'branch' like you can see mounted on the two wires coming off the top switch.

Thats correct the flasher unit is an original  two pin unit .The orange wire is piggy backed on the blue wire just as Luke said ...

Well I am hopping to re-grease the old motor and keep it for a 'backup'
I am hopping to get the new motor on the C5 before the Crawly run on the 14th of April

I'll tell you how it runs when I fit it  ;) ;)

Do you still have the thin gearbox bearing? I am also after a secondhand motor (gearbox not needed if you have the bearing) as i really can't afford £150 for a new one :(

Hi regarding the large thin bearing I will let you know also have you seen the motor on eBay ...cheaper than a new one

Hi Chas,

Against all the odds i got the motor stripped and running last night! I will post a couple of pictures of how it was (the C5 in question was found in a bog!). I managed to find some motor bearings to replace the wrecked ones. I have got some gearbox bearings from a supplier i know from work. Only thing is the outer belt drive looks quite brittle so I will have to see how it goes. I will email the guy on eBay though as it has just ended without bids.
