bought one of these from flee-bay. I got a battery top given off a mush when i bought a pod from him, so as it cost me nothing I chopped and cropped it to fit. Charged about 5 times and doing good. Only seem to be getting about 15 miles though :-\ . According to the C5 manual on a battery half this size I should be getting that anyway. Oh well, for what I paid it isnt bad. Marra

Never mind the manual i'm thinking 15miles is very good - would be interesting to know how it keeps performing over time -Thanks for that.
So 15 miles on 76 ah is good, I was looking at getting a 110 ah ;D ... pretty heavy though :( May get another one of these .... more miles then.

What's the weight of that Marra? Can you bung it on the scales for us?
The advert says.... "Weight approx 27.5 Kg" :-*

Mine showing 29.5 - 30 kg.
That is quite heavy, doubt you could run a 24v using two of those as I'd be worried about the chassis.
Not a problem though if you're sticking with 12v and carrying just the one battery.

You are right, If I go 24 then prob just buy a couple of car lead acid ones like recommended on earlier threads. This one seems to be good as its lighter than 2 x 36/38 ah ones that I have seen, but getting the same ah's.
The advertised weight for the battery is obviously prior to charging. It weighs significantly more when full of electricity!!!!.
Actually, my 45Ah car battery weighs only 12.5Kg.
They sound to be better then, what type are they ? Only thing with that I would have to buy another charger. suppose they cheap enough anyway.
Hi, I splashed out and bought a Ping battery off Ebay. Ping builds them to your spec and they are Lifepo4.
Battery spec
Lifepo4
12v
40 Ah
Weight 5kg!!!!
The Results?
Well I get about thirty miles from a charge and you really notice the 10kg weight saving. I Pulled the guts out of the Oldham battery and put the new one inside so it looks original and retains key.
These new Ping batteries really are superb. They cost £350, but will outlast the life of a lead acid more than eight times over. :)
£350 :o
That's exactly what I was thinking! :o :o :o :o :o
A bit like the printer being cheaper than the ink. In this case, you could get another C5 for £350!!
i was thinking more about doing 30 miles in a C5 :o, what 'numb bum' time that would be ;D

A superb effort mate, and very impressive.
I've always fancied a dabble with lithium based batteries but never had the spare cash to justify it.
It's good to see them actually being used, rather than just in theory :D Are they more fragile regards charging ?
A cluster of four of these Foxx 3.2v cells: http://cgi.ebay.it/Foxx-Power-LiFePo4-40a-Cell-/140350983908?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20ad920ee4
capacity: 40Ah
weight: 6.5 Kg
price: £142
it appears a lot more attractive. ::)

lol that made me laugh :)
I use a Marine semi traction battery 105 Amps, the specs say you can empty it to 80% of its load many of times, it is about 28 kilo and so big that I sometimes hit the back of my feet against it when I try to pedal :D
45 miles I already did once, no problemo. Still had 11.50 volts on the meter during the end of the ride, power on, that was about the same when I started. price about 100 pounds.
I'm going to swap it for a 80 amps version because it is about an inch shorter. And obviously shorter. ;)
There is a 55 amps version also that costs 55 pounds weights about 16 kilo.
Going to try that one for my second C5 that currently drives on a 80amps car battery. Car battery goes faster when its full but drops speed gradually. And they tell me that its bad to empty it more then 50%. Kills the battery.
