That spring... it's a bit of an elusive bugger!

I got the tensioner bolted on eventually, though I lost the washers in the process! However I've just spent over an hour trying to hook on the spring and I have no idea how I will get a pair of plyers up there to close it. Any tips?

Dan

I think you could hook the spring onto the frame first then secure the tensioner easier.

Hi there sorry that you could not clip the spring on .But Andy said put the spring on first then close it up with some long nose pliers then bolt it on ..(if you don't have any pliers let me know and I will lend you my set ) bye Chas

If I put the spring on before the bolts I won't be able to reach the bolts. :-\

Hi there sorry that you cannot fit the spring in place What I will do is to lend you my long nose pliers and hopefully you will be able to fit it  then
But try this first  fit the spring first then put the two small bolts in place then bend the tensioner right back and  put a tiewrap around it then you will be able to to put the nuts on the small bolts.
Failing that I will post the pliers ....

Chas, you and Karl really are the most generous and helpful people in the world! But no need to send the pliers as do have a pair I think will do the job.

Just to check one thing, do you mean I should bend the tensioner right back so that the spring is stretched. Also I've been working from undeneath the C5 rather than turning it on it's side or upside down. Is this the best way?

Sorry for so many q's this is the first real bit of maintenance I've done!

Dan

It's best to remove your battery and carefully turn your C5 onto its side, I took a while refitting mine after the "Y" clip broke, but the way Chas has said will work, hook the spring first the put the tensioner into position.

Putting it on her side made everything MUCH easier. All fitted now and had a good run with no probs.

First bit of maintenance completed! Thanks everyone!  ;D
