Title: help removing pedal cranks
Post by: Karl on 06, June, 2009 - 12:25:14
....received this email from Andrew, never had this problem myself - anyone have any ideas ?

Karl

Any hints here without doing any damage? Got the left pedal crank off with the puller but the RH seems very stubborn and am wary of applying too much brute force and ignorance.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

Andrew

Hi Andrew

I had the same problem with steadfast cranks. I sprayed rust remover and used one of these crank extractors (http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Datei:Kurbelabzieher_01_KMJ.jpg&filetimestamp=20070911102657):

Then was very easy to unplug.

Regards

Phil

Thanks Guys,

I took the C5 to my local bike shop (they had never seen one in the flesh
before!) and they sold me a crank extractor, like Phil's, for £9. Job done!

Again it proves that having the right tools is worth every penny.

I notice that you can get them on eBay slightly cheaper but you do then have to pay postage as well.

Onto the next task.....

..glad you found the answer mate !

As anyone who has worked on a c5 will tell you, they can be quite frustrating at times - which makes the taste of success all the sweeter when you finally get the end result you was after  8)

When I was working on my C5 a few weeks ago I had exact the same problem and had to do a number of shops before I found one.

The pedal crank extractor I found was part of a bike repair kit I got from Decathlon. The kit also includes nice parts to work on your brakes, chain, wheels and steering mechanics.
