Star nut

Okay, first to answer wins the grand prize of... [message cut short for reasons of space]

Nearside wheel. Need it off. Star nut. And the answer is.......?

A) A hammer
B) A big hammer
C) A specialist tool
D) Something obvious I've missed

A spanner

All you need to remove the nearside (motor side) wheel is a socket & a ratchet - from memory I think it's a 17mm bolt. Once you've removed this bolt, the star nut will come off. You may need to give it/the wheel a slight tug to free it.

Right, now that's where the problem is. Bolt, not a problem but I'm stuck on the star nut... do I give it a tap? Just how easily should it come off?

That's alright, my iPhone used to do this too in the first few weeks until it 'taught' itself to spell it correctly.

Oh, back to wheels, is there an obvious way for the brake (right) side wheel trim to stay on? I think I'm right in saying the left side is the only one that'elegantly have a star.nut?

The right hand side wheel trim is held in place by a large washer which goes behind the bearing carrier for the outermost (right) bearing.

Oh really?? I had a feeling that it wasn't put together properly! The order they were on we're:

Bearings
Aluminium cup over bearings
Aluminium axle
Wheel
Locking nut (circular with recesses for spanner)
Nut

There did seem to be quite a bit of friction there unless the lock it was fairly loose... so where does the washer come in?

The order they should be in is the following;

Bearing
Aluminium cup
Wheel
Washer
Aluminium cup
Bearing
Locking nut (circular with recesses for spanner)
Nut
