Can't get motor to run

Hi,

I've been trying to get a C5 up and running for a while. it was in pretty poor condition when i started and had many burnt out componants and burnt tracks on the boards the 1A fuse had been bypassed. I have tried many things but still can't get the motor to run. I don't even get a click from the relay.

Some things i have tried are:


replaced all componants in control pod
repaired burned tracks
new relay
new transistors in pod
replaced r21 in pod
cleaned all contacts
tested red wiring loom
12v to x2/3/4 and both sides of r1
12v to lm342 and 5v out

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me crazy!

Have you tried connecting a battery directly to the motor to see if it turns?

Hi there just as Kamilb say's First thing is to make sure that the motor works ....The brushes some times stick ...

Yes tried the motor direct to the battery and it turns. sorry should have said that.

Do you have any display on the Pod ??

Have you checked all wiring, especially the red wiring loom between the pod and the control board ??

Also all contacts /pins on the POD may need a good clean.

I think the pod is normal now ( when i first attached a battery it was a dull glow of random lights!) the led's are all light up on the state of charge side and on the other i have two amber lights and when i press the microswitch i get one green aswell. ive given the contacts a good clean and tested the loom and reseated the wires at the pod end of the loom. however, the lights sometimes go out when i move the the control board.
I have the whole eletrical system removed and on a bench.

These boards suffer from dry and broken joints around the pins that solder through the board, might be something else to look at.

I've tried renewing the joints in the pod and removed and replaced everything on the control board. I guess there must be some sort of bad connection for the lights to go out. Might try reseating the wires inthe connector at the control box end. Everything was quite coroded when I got the C5. I think everything had been left open to the elements for many years.

The damage you are describing sounds as if there has been a reverse polarity connection - this could have damaged the ula giving a non run condition - i had this exact same fault on a c5 last week - if u want to post the pod to me covering the return postage - i will happily test it for you - Marty

ps also check the fuse holders are making a good connection as they can play up after fuse changes

Have you changed the op amp in the control box ?

Hi,

I had a a problem with the fuse but have sorted that. I was under the impression that the motor would run without the ula. Is there any way I can bypass the pod to make sure that it is the problem? I will have another look at it tomorrow but think I might have to take you up on your kind offer.

I have replaced everything in the control box.

What power source are you using to power it up, are you using a Car battery or similar ??

Reason i ask is that a while back someone was testing on a bench and there power source was not up to the current being drawn.

This would give similar symptoms, ie all lights appearing to show correctly but nothing going on at the motor end when the button was pushed.

Thanks John, I was all excited this morning when I checked the battery and found it was only 14Ah. I've tried a 40Ah battery and still no joy. Guess I'm going to have to admit defeat and take Marty up on his generous offer.
I'm suprised at the level of help you get on this forum.
