Drive Belt Issues

Hello

I have been messing with the motor and its positioning for the past couple of days.  I thought I had solved the hammering clicking noise and no movement of the C5 but today its back.

I have tried twisting the motor and tightening up the bracket so that it is all flush with the fence is it called it gate!!

After trying it and looking for movement there is nothing.

I have just tried the cut up credit card under the motor to try and lift the motor up and the cogs further away.  Whatever I do the belt just slips and to be honest however rotate the motor the drive belt doesn't seem to get that much tighter.

Does anyone have anymore ideas?

Is it possible that the C5 has been left for 27 years with the drive belt in a fixed position and it has just stretched.

I have checked all the cogs and everything looks pretty new to me.

Thank you

Simon

Post a picture of your belt and all the cogs, from a few different angles, preferably with the belt removed.

Chances are that if your C5 still has the original belt it will need changing, it will almost certainly have perished in some way over the years.

Hello there

Here are some pics of the belt. Its too dark to take pics of the cogs at the mo. I will do some tomorrow.

To be honest everything on this C5 just makes me think it has hardly been used.  I am pretty sure this is the original belt and I am hoping it is just stretched.

When I went to remove it, it was really east to get on and off, not sure if that is any indication or not.

Thanks for your advice

Simon

Hi there Simon the belt seems to be fine .But cannot tell if it is sreched ..The only thing you could do is to buy a new one (18 mm are the best ) Karl my have one for sale in the shop ...??????????

Hey cheers.

I have ordered the larger of the two available from the shop.

Do they get stretched?

It's only a guess that if its been in the same position it might have lost some elasticity or something.

I dunno!

Thanks

Hello all

Just a quick update.  I received my new wider drive belt from c5 alive (thank you!).

Fitted it and got it as tight as I could.  So far no clicks but not tested on the open road yet.

Fingers crossed.

I did try and put as much weight on it to stop the wheels and burst the power and it didn't slip.

Hi there Simon it's great that you are on the road now ..But with the belt being so tight it will put a strain on the motor and the shaft and  could snap off the two small bearings that are inside the gearbox so just be aware .Sorry for being a kiljoy...Chas

Hi chas

It's not megga tight I don't think, there is a bit of movement in the belt.

Hey thanks for the goodies you sent me.  I have sent you an email earlier today.

Let me know how much I owe you.

Thanks

Simon
