Stripped down the latest C5 this morning and now know alll about the stuck handle bars !!! - Can't shift it - had to take the shell off with them still on - will attack it with the burning torch later !!!

Retro Andy

Does it mean you had to cut the shell ?

Retro Andy

No but had to force it over the handle bar stub - not pretty !!!!

Retro Andy

I glad you did'nt have to cut a hole in the frame, I have seen some on ebay that have been butchered on removel, its criminal, if I had too, I would cut through the handle bar stem.

..same here mate, I hate to cause any damage - but the handlebar stem is a common bicycle part that is easily replaced so it makes sense for it to be "sacrificed" if necessary.

Finally got it apart - held the the lower connection in a vice and used a pair of 'stillies' to work the top stem loose - then beat it out with a drift - much fun !!! - will put back together with some 'copper slip' to stop it sticking again.

Thinking of making up a jig for this problem..........

PS Should have spotted the clue on this one - bolt missing from handle bars and chassis painted underside only !!!!!!!!
