No power to pod!

Hi All

Trying to get my 2nd C5 ready for the run on sunday, but struggling!

Replaced the top fuse in the control box, powered up! All good. Light switch works both headlight and tail light. motor power switch works, so we do have power!

Pod is good, as we've done a swap-test with Daves pod..

Is there anything obvious I can test? I'm hoping it is something simple!

If we cant get a pod to power up, how sensible is it to run a C5 without a pod?

Thanks in advance! :)

Hi Mike could be a bad connection on the red connector - try plug it on and off a few times however it is most possibly your 5v regulator in the control box. You'll need to stick a meter across pins 1 and 5 of x9 (the socket the red plug for the pod plugs onto) pin 1 being +5v pin 5 being 0v. If you get stuck and can't get it going bring it along on Sunday and i'll take a look.

Hey Martin!

I also suspect it maybe a poor connection on the red wire loom!

A friend of mine is meant to be using this C5 for our run on Sunday, so we will bring the C5 along anyway - just hope it is something simple we can fix!

Cheers for the speedy reply :)

Does sound like the 5 volt reg or the resistor below it R1, I will bring my soldering iron and a spare 5 volt reg just in case it is that.  ;D

Quick update!

We've spent the day trying to get basket case up and running, which we think we now have done! (Still no pod lights)

Gear slipping on belt, but ok once you get going.

We did a continuity test on the pod loom, and that checked out. Also, without the pod loom connected we get no power to the motor (good sign).

Sadly my meter packed up when trying to check the 5V!

John, where we are meeting tomorrow we may not have the luxury of a plug socket, do you have a gas soldering iron?

Can we run it safely without the pod lights? Or should we be looking at a contingency plan!

Now to try to put a C5 on the roof and strap it down :)

I cant see any reason why it would not be ok to run with out the pod display, i do have an inverter that can be plugged into the car , also another inverter on a seperate power source in the car, so should run the soldering iron ok if needed.

I have got a spare 5 volt reg, but can't lay my hands on it at the moment, hopefully i will find it by the morning.

Have a look at  R1, this is sometimes a cause of the problem, (it may look burnt), although i have had one of these that looked fine but was still open circuit when checked. This would stop the 12 volts geting to the 5 volt regulator. Just a thought.

Good luck with the C5 on the roof  ;D

See you all tomorrow.

John

Cheers john! Fingers crossed we'll all get there in one piece! Our test runs today went well except for the grindy motor at slow speeds!

We'll aim to be there for 9am.

See you there :)

Karl

Good luck with the run guys.

This will be the first c5alive run that I've not taken part in ! :(

John I have some regulators will bring them just in case - don't have any screws left to bolt it to the heatsink and I am out of 2.2r if you have any

PLOD11

No problem, if it has been replaced before it may have a nut and bolt already, or if not a rivet of some kind. I will bring a drill to drill it out   :-\ :-\

I will have a look and see what i can find tonight when i get home.
